Welcome to the Wiltshire LDWA Website
Home Page
The Wiltshire branch of the Long Distance Walkers Association is one of over 40 local
groups situated around the country. We organise walks throughout Wiltshire and
regularly venture into Gloucestershire and Somerset.
Members of the LDWA are welcome to walk with our or any group and we are particularly
keen to see new members and make every effort to make them feel at home and hopefully
take an active part in the group.
Throughout the year we walk on the first Sunday of the month, starting at 9am prompt,
and generally covering around 18 to 20 miles We aim to finish between 4 and 5pm.
From May until September we will be including a mid month walk on either a Saturday or
a Sunday. We bring packed lunches although we stop near a pub at lunch time where
we are able help the local economy.
There is also a mid morning and mid afternoon coffee stop. By way of a change,
we have recently run a linear walk from Chippenham to Bath with a train journey home, and an
early start walk to Avebury to see the mid-summer'd day sunrise. Unfortunately
the clouds got in the way but we hope for better weather next year. See Steve Braithwaite's
account of life before dawn
by clicking this link.
We organise a walk of between 12 and 16 miles on the third Thursday of every month.
These start at 9.30am and will stop for a pub lunch.
Our Challenge Walk, The Pewsey Downsaround was held on April 20th. Thanks to all who walked, ran and helped
at the event and we hope to see all of you and a few more on Sunday 19th April 2009 when we will be adding
a 16 to the 26 and 35 mile routes of 2008.
See more on the Challenge Walk page.
We have had a few long weekend jaunts to the Quantocks, Shropshire, Lynton, Snowdonia, Chagford and
most recently to the Yorkshire Dales for the 3 Peaks Challenge. The South Downs in May and Mid-Wales in
October are next on our list.
Weekend walks details are published in the LDWA's Strider magazine 3 times a year and both our
weekend and weekday walks details are here on the website.
If you would like to join us or would like any more information about us or the LDWA
